DID YOU KNOW? Florida beaches bear the unique distinction of being home for 90% of all nesting sea turtles in the U.S. Each year, from May through October, loggerhead and green turtles frequent Amelia Island. Coming ashore at night, these 300-500 pound creatures leave their eggs in the sand. Left undisturbed, the clutch hatches and emerges from the sand in 55-60 days. Discover more about turtles and other beach ecosystems in the Flora & Fauna section.
